Multilevel Boards in Ganttly

Ganttly fully supports monday.com multilevel boards, allowing you to visualize complex project structures directly on your Gantt chart.

Whether you're managing large projects or breaking work into multiple levels of tasks, Ganttly helps you keep the entire hierarchy in one place.

What is supported?

With multilevel boards supported, Ganttly lets you:

  • View up to 5 levels of items and subitems on your Gantt chart.

  • Use either Timeline or Date columns as the basis for your schedule.

  • See the complete project hierarchy while maintaining a clear timeline view.

This makes it easier to understand how work is organized and how individual tasks relate to one another.

Rollup column limitations

While Ganttly supports multilevel boards, we do not recommend using rollup columns if you want the full Ganttly experience.

Due to current monday.com API limitations, some rollup data is not available to third-party apps. As a result, several Ganttly features cannot work correctly when rollup columns are used.

1. Item duration may not be represented accurately

The monday.com API currently does not expose hour-level information for rollup Date columns.

This means:

  • Date-based rollup columns may not display the exact duration of items when hours are involved.

  • If your planning only requires day-level accuracy, we recommend using a Timeline column, which provides a better experience for multilevel boards.

2. Drag & drop editing is unavailable

When using rollup date columns, you won't be able to:

  • Move items by dragging their bars.

  • Resize bars to change an item's duration.

These actions require checking hours that aren’t currently available through the monday.com API for rollup values.

3. Grouping by Status may not be available

If the Status column is configured as a rollup column, Group by Status is not supported in Ganttly.

Our recommendation

For the best experience with multilevel boards, we recommend:

  • ✅ Using regular Timeline or Date columns whenever possible.

  • ✅ Using Timeline columns if you only need day-level planning across multiple hierarchy levels.

  • ❌ Avoiding rollup columns when you want to edit schedules directly in Ganttly or use advanced grouping features.

As monday.com continues to expand its multilevel board API, we'll keep improving Ganttly to support new capabilities as they become available.
